Ironbound Maidens vs. Western Mass Destruction: Bout Recap

9 Oct

Final score: 216 GSR to 42 WMDs

The women of PVRD had their last bout of the 2011 season at Inline Skating Club of America in Wallington, NJ on Oct. 8 against the Garden State Rollergirls’ all-star team.

The Ironbound Maidens capitalized on power plays and played a strong defensive game that prevented the WMDs from racking up too many points.  GSRG dominated much of the game; they used their great control of the pack speed and ability to split up our walls (isolating us from one another).

As the women of PVRD head into the off-season, we will use the lessons learned from this game to prepare for 2012. We plan to work on our speed control, our cohesiveness on the track and our ability to play both a strong offensive and defensive game.

We had a great time playing our friends in Jersey and are looking forward to having a bout with them again soon!

Check out Hale Yeah’s photos of the bout.

Clam’s Narragansett Tie Story

5 Oct 2011_01005_ClamGansett

At Thursday’s practice, Clam Jammer was spotted sporting a red and white “Official Beer of the Clam” Narragansett tie. The tie was a nice piece of neck wear, but the story of its acquisition was even sweeter.

The story of the tie goes a bit like this: on her way back from Rugged Maniac, Clam stopped at a festival in Greenfield, spotted a Narragansett table, and moseyed on over. Eying the ties on display, Clam asked the rep manning the booth if she could buy one. The ties weren’t for sale and couldn’t be had… until the rep realized that Clam was, well, Clam. Narragansett is a PVRD sponsor and he handed over one of the fabulous pieces of ‘Gansett gear. In return, Clam Jammer promised to pose with it, some friends, and their best Narragansett wear. Hence, the lovely “jam out with your clam out” shirts on display at practice.
