Home at Last!

Ahh, it is good to be home in the valley! We’ve been back for exactly one week, and already squeezed in four practices with PVRD. Y’know… ’cause we missed skating!

Last we left you, the generous futon offering of a dear friend in Portland was our home.

Portland Men’s Roller Derby welcomed us to a men’s practice at “The Hangar,” their shared space with Rose City Rollers. I haven’t seen this many dudes on the track since 2011 championships! Skating with Dallas Deception was pretty close though.

Davy Jones #78

Davy admits his favorite move is to stop a jammer cold during one-on-one play in the back of a pack.

How would Davy decorate his secret lair? With a big TV, a treadmill, a bookcase full of classics, and lots of rich mahogany (he’s still mulling over the smoking jacket and pipe).

Davy would like to rewrite the rule book so that bouts consisted of 15-minute quarters with short breaks and 10 minutes of halftime – the best format for fans to watch. 

Davy’s favorite part of roller derby is the “chance to be part of something historic, and the chance to show my high school coach what he missed out on.”
